A natural pearl commences its life when a parasite or alien particle randomly lodges in the soft body of a pearl producing oyster.

In an effort to alleviate this burden, the oyster defends itself by producing a smooth crystalline substance that hardens surrounding the alien particle. This silky and crystalline substance is called mother-of-pearl, and with time will completely cover the particle.

In it´s effort to protect itself the oyster will produce a beautiful pearl.
